Mason jar Soap dispenser

I will admit that I have a small (okay..big) crush on mason jars and a love of finding ways to reuse  household items and if I can save money doing all that it's a huge plus. And then on top of that if I can make something cute well...my world is complete. I was ecstatic with the wine bottle dish soap dispenser so I decided to try using a mason jar..

It looks sweet and is so handy! I drilled a hole in the lid and used an old lotion pump. I'd love to see pictures of ways you've reused around your house!

Last but Not Least...

On the 13th Day of Valentines me true love received...

One little book that said it all!

Some of you may know that I am a huge fan of mini-albums and when I saw this one on PaperVine I just knew this was something I wanted to make and it was perfect timing since the day of love was just around the corner! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it!

Valentines Day Goodies!

Valentines Day is only a couple sleeps away and I've been very busy with some fun crafts at the kitchen table! If you've been following my post about the advent calendar you can tell I've been having a blast!

I'm a very inquisitive person by nature and like to know facts behind the holidays we celebrate so here are a couple cute ones!

About 1 billion Valentine's Day cards are exchanged in US each year. That's the largest seasonal card-sending occasion of the year, next to Christmas.

In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling.

The Italian city of Verona, where Shakespeare's lovers Romeo and Juliet lived, receives about 1,000 letters addressed to Juliet every Valentine's Day.

Richard Cadbury invented the first Valentines Day candy box in the late 1800s.

While looking up facts I also discovered this bit of fun!

Valentine's Day Superstitions
It is said that the kind of bird a girl watches on Valentine's Day predicts her future husband. For instance:
Sparrow: a poor man
Owl: remain spinster
Bluebird: a happy man
Blackbird: a priest or clergyman
Crossbill: an argumentative man

  • If an apple is cut in half, the number of seeds found inside the fruit will indicate the number of children that individual will have.
  • To be awoken by a kiss on Valentine's Day is considered lucky.
  • On Valentine's Day, the first guy's name you read in the paper or hear on the TV or radio will be the name of the man you will marry.
  • If you see a squirrel on Valentine's Day, you will marry a cheapskate who will hoard all your money.
  • If you see a goldfinch on Valentine's Day, you will marry a millionaire.
  • If you see a robin on Valentine's Day, you will marry a crime fighter - maybe they mean Batman!
  • If you see a flock of doves on Valentine's Day, you will have a happy, peaceful marriage.
  • If you find a glove on the road on Valentine's Day, your future beloved will have the other missing glove.
And now for the goodies! Drumroll please.......

As you can see I've been very busy! Next I get to trade in all this red and pink for green! Can't wait to show you all the awesome St. Pattys Day cards I'm going to come up with..they're so cool you'll want to pinch yourself to see if its real!

Heres to hoping your Valentines Day is full of LOVE!

Valentines Day Advent Calendar

This whole project began the day I decided I wanted to give something hand-made and crafty to the hubby for valentines day..I'd seen a few advent calendars using cupcake pans and thought they were super cute and wanted to try making one myself. So armed with that knowledge and the fact that Will enjoyed the christmas calendar I had made him I decided this was the way to go!
What do you think!?..

I decided to use a mini cupcake pan for the longer months with holidays in them! I've decided that you could re-use the pan for each holiday and make different themed discs for each one..such as christmas, easter, halloween or whatever holiday you are so excited to countdown for! I used magnetic sheets, scrap paper and a hole punch to create the discs for each day.

So as I crafted it turned out the calendar itself was super easy but coming up with the goodies for each day was a little tougher..so I went with the theme of the "12 days of Christmas" and made it my own as the "13 days of Valentines".. I've had tons of fun making each little treat for Will and I think he's having fun so far counting down the days because he asks if its time to check the calendar!

On the 1st day of Valentines my true love received.....

On the 2nd day of Valentines my true love received....

On the 4th day of Valentines my true love received...

On the 5th day of Valentines my true love received...

On the 6th day of Valentines my true love received....

On the 7th day of Valentines my true love received...

On the 8th, 9th and 10th day of Valentines my true love received..

I know you're asking yourself about the 3rd day but if I told you then it would be TMI...

I will add to this post as the days go by to show the little gifts that come with each day and of course we'll have the big reveal of what the 13th day of Valentines will be! Here's a teaser..the queen of hearts makes an appearance!

My kitchen table is overflowing with LOVEly valentines goodies so keep checking back for more!

Notecard Calendar Journal

One of my New Years goals was to keep a journal, I wanted to write down my thoughts and remember what I did that day, fun things I saw or memories that should be written down to look back on but I wanted it to be fun too. But at the end of the day the last thing I wanted to be doing was sitting up forcing myself to write about my day, so I did some research.

A couple neat things came to mind. One was a smash journal. You start with a journal and "smash"; clip out, write up, pictures, receipts, tid bits of things, into this journal page by page. They have super neat accessories including neat stamps, sticky notes, tape etc. for these types of things but I realized I don't read magazines to clip stuff out of and it was more of an idea book. So I continued researching..Now I have to insert here that I used to be the most impulsive person ever! If I decided to do something I just did it! Well..now I'm married to the least impulsive person I know..he doesn't walk towards anything..he crawls..but he usually makes the right decision. And here I am now..a researcher of things.

I stumbled upon Design Sponge and their Vintage Postcard Calendar Journal and decided this was for me..so here is my take on this cute idea!

To make this cute lil bugger all you need is a basket, 180 4x6 lined notecards, vintage postcards or scrapbook paper of your choice, a date stamp, a paper cutter (scissors) and time..

First cut your 4x6 cards in half, I cut more than I needed to leave room for mistakes.

Stamp the month and date on each card.

Trim your postcards to the same width as your notecards and a little longer. I wasn't able to find postcards I liked but had vintage scrapbook paper that looked sweet so I used that instead!

Once your done get to jotting down those memories! The great thing about this journal is that you will get to see what you did on that day each year!

This would be a fun gift for a newly married couple, new parents or pretty much anyone!

Until next time from my kitchen table..!

A Snapshot of My Life

Nell, of the blog Wranglers and Ribbons recently wrote a post about what is in her life now and her favorite things and asked to see what was in ours. So here goes nothing.
1.    What I'm currently reading

A little mind numbing brain candy! A little racy western but helps me relax at the end of the day!

2.    What I'm currently listening to in the jeep

3.   What I'm loving in my kitchen

The kitchenaid is one of our favorite wedding presents and gets A LOT of use! We recently used it to make bread and it was a delight to the hubby that he didn't have to hand knead the dough!

4.   What I'm loving in my purse

Bath and Body Works hand sanitizers are so handy for the purse I probably add a new one every couple months and I'm just that much healthier!
5.         The current background on my Iphone

My incredibly handsome hubby....Enough said!

6.      My current ringtone

I Don't Want This Night to End by Luke Bryan

7.     The newest app on my Iphone

Barcode scanner shopping. I heard it could help you save money by finding the best price..guess I'll find out!

8.     Crafts I'm currently working on

Giant clothespins! I wanted to create something to hold my current projects and to show them off for pictures when I sell on etsy or at the shop in town that sells Charming Country Life products.

9.     What my house smells like

I love my wax burner! It's safer than a candle and I can change the scents often and with the seasons! The hubs loves vanilla/baked goods scents so those are the ones I use most often.

10.     Last thing I bought

Craft supplies of course! And a Dairigold milk crate at an antique store for towels in our guest bath.

It's been fun to try Nell's challenge and show you all a glimpse into my life. I would love to read about what's going on in your life or about your favorite things too! Either on your blog or in the comment section of mine! Thanks Nell for the challenge!

Repurposed wine bottle

I will openly admit that I am a wine lover and have the bottles in the recycling to prove it. I also love to see what I can repurpose and reuse and I think it's one of the more awesome ideas ... Dish soap in a wine bottle!

All you need to make this is a wine bottle ( I had lots of Huck bottles but love Heavens Cave and what they stand for) and a soap pump with a long straw (I got mine at a beauty supply but you may have one laying around the house). Just rinse out your bottle really well and fill with your dish soap of choice. I used a spray on glaze to keep the label looking nice through all the use and water it will see. And ta da! Enjoy! This time from my kitchen sink....

Weekend antiquing

The hubby and I decided to hit the streets this past weekend and take part in one of our favorite pastimes, antiquing. We decided to check out the Hillyard districts antique shops. They have several really cool shops and the prices were decent. I was looking for a wooden crate to store towels in our guest bath and had great success! Check out my find!

Antiquing is a fun and free (unless you buy of course) activity and a great way to see how they used to do things. I'd love to see your antiquing finds just send 'em my way! I can't wait to show y'all what's coming next from my kitchen table!

Happy New Year!

First off I want to start this post with an apology for my absence lately. Between the lack of computer, lack of Internet and the holidays i was absent for quite some time but that is all about to change! Like many Americans I made my share of new years goals ( I don't like resolutions too much pressure!) And one was too keep the blog up to date with some fun and creative goodies! And once a month I'll be posting a cute make at home craft too!

I'd love to hear what your resolutions are and what you'd like to see here on the blog! And don't forget if you have a crafty question or a how to question I'd love to help answer that too; sort of a "ask Sarah" advice column!

Valentines Day is coming and with it some lovely goodies from my kitchen table and I can't wait! Until next time.....
